WHAT IS A MICROGRID?

Microgrids are groups of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) – serving the on-demand needs of interconnected loads within a defined boundary. These electrical ‘networks’ act as an autonomous controllable entity with respect to the grid. Microgrids can operate in both grid-connected or island-mode.

Microgrids can accommodate any-combination of DERs: Fossil Fuel-Based: oil, coal, gas.
Alternative Sources: nuclear, biofuels, and/or Renewables: solar, wind, hydro. They may
also include energy storage and the ability to load balance between connected microgrids
(which create macrogrids).

Blueflux microgrids operate independently from the grid, or as grid connected systems. When grid connected, the platform can dynamically draw power from the grid during the optimal conditions, for example; at night when grid power is most available and least cost.
A Blueflux grid connected system can also act as a current injector, pushing power into a local grid to supplement their power as needed.

More Green. Less Cost

Computer networks rely on a master/slave model of communication for hardware devices where one device has a unidirectional control over the devices on the network. Similarly, all power grids, including microgrids, require a ‘master’ Voltage Generator, without which Current Generators (solar, wind, fuel-generators, etc.) can’t inject their power into the grid. This is why, in a grid-tie solar scenario, if the grid is down, even if sun is available, solar panels can’t generate usable power. The net of this: Voltage Generators are essential to a power network’s (the grid’s) reliability and resiliency. We apply our patented master Voltage Generator. This provides a highly-efficient and redundant fail-proof system, which automatically and immediately takes over should the primary system fail – with no power interruption.
